Bedtime stories on the ceiling: a 10-minute projector routine
Kids love bedtime stories. They love them even more when the story fills the ceiling above their bed. A small projector and your phone are all you need to turn story time into a little show — without handing your child a tablet.
Why a projector works so well at bedtime
- Kids lie down and look up. No screen in their hands, no swiping, no autoplay rabbit holes.
- The whole family sees the same page. Siblings share one story instead of fighting over one tablet.
- You stay the storyteller. With Cuentorama, the pictures go on the ceiling and the words show up on your phone, so you read aloud like a real picture book.
The 10-minute routine
- Lights low, projector on. Point it at the ceiling or a blank wall. A dim, warm room makes the pictures pop.
- Open Big screen. On the projector (or the laptop connected to it), open Cuentorama and choose Big screen. A short code appears.
- Pair your phone. Scan the code. Your phone becomes the remote and shows the words.
- Pick one short book. Five to eight pages is perfect. Let your child choose — it's part of the fun.
- Read, then let the narrator take over (optional). On sleepy nights, switch on the narrator and let the story read itself.
- End the same way every night. "The End," lights off, one hug. Rituals help kids wind down.
What kind of projector do you need?
You don't need anything fancy. For a dark bedroom, look for:
- Real brightness of about 200–400 ANSI lumens (ignore huge "lumens" numbers on cheap boxes — they're usually inflated).
- A tilting stand so it can point at the ceiling.
- Autofocus and a quiet fan.
- A built-in browser, Google TV or Chromecast, so it can open Cuentorama directly.
We're testing projectors right now and will publish a Works with Cuentorama list soon.
Tips from parents
- Keep the volume low and the narrator voice calm.
- Use Picture show mode for kids who are learning to read: they look at the pictures while you read the words.
- Switch the story to Spanish halfway through for a playful bilingual bedtime.
